I've played violin for over 20 years, after studying classical violin until the age of 18 I then studied Music for my BA at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London where I focused on Klezmer, Eastern European and Indian music. I play regularly in bands across the UK and Europe covering a wide rang of styles such as folk, gypsy jazz, klezmer, bluegrass.
I also play guitar and a variety of percussion instruments.
I have over 7 years of teaching experience both privately, in schools and for group classes. I taught for Leeds Violin School based at the Yorkshire College of Music and Drama where students age ranged from 3 - 80. Now I teach privately as well as running community music groups aiming to make music more accessible to people from different backgrounds. For example I have run music groups for people with physical disabilities and used to run a weekly music group for a mental health charity in Leeds.
I have 100% pass rate for students taking ABRSM exams, many of whom achieved distinctions.
I take a fun and creative approach to teaching and try to plan my lessons around the interests and needs of the student. I also provide a thorough approach to violin technique and posture. As a versatile player I can offer tuition in a range of styles including classical ABRSM grades, folk, klezmer, gypsy jazz and improvisation.
Due to the ongoing pandemic I have moved all my tutoring online so I can teach people in different parts of the country or even across the world. I have tailored my teaching style for online platforms to keep my lessons as interactive and engaging as possible.
