Denise Lewin
Cello, Piano, Violin and Music Theory
- Guide Price£21 / 30 minute lesson
I believe music should be enjoyable, so I keep lessons varied, with different activities and styles of music. I like to teach in a methodical and structured way, to give you a clear sense of direction and a sound understanding of the music. We will usually focus on learning by playing as much as we can.
In addition to using commercial teaching materials, I create my own, which means that I can adapt lessons to my students needs. I teach people online and in person at home as well as in schools. However I’ve found that online lessons have some advantages, such as:
* I can see, and advise on, your practise set up at home
* As the lessons are in your home, parents feel more involved in the learning process
* Parents have a better understanding of what their child is learning and can give better support between lessons
* There’s no travel for you or for me!
I began learning music as a child, playing and singing from an early age. I still regularly rehearse and perform in public in classical orchestras and symphonic windbands. I have given music tuition since I was a teenager, and have continued to develop my teaching skills since then.
I am formally qualified with the Certificate in Teaching of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (CTABRSM), and I’m a full Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (MISM). I teach piano, cello, violin and music theory.
Testimonials
My two daughters have been having piano lessons with Mrs Lewin for the past 3 years. Over the past 6 months the girls have continued to learn through online lessons. I am so grateful for this opportunity and consistency provided by Mrs Lewin. The girls have still continued to learn at an excellent pace online. Mrs Lewin is kind and professional and the girls look forward to seeing her every week. Thank you Mrs Lewin for giving the girls a wonderful introduction to piano playing - long may it continue.
We are so pleased to have found Denise whose knowledge and superb teaching enabled both my daughters to pass grade 5 theory with distinction, even through remote learning during the lockdown period. Thank you, Denise, I would highly recommend you to others.
As a latecomer to music, I wanted a teacher who would be supportive and work at a pace which matched my needs. Denise is perfect! She is extremely patient, supportive and encouraging, and most importantly flexible and understanding. Each week varies depending on my health (which can fluctuate), providing me with the option to explore music theory, which has enabled a greater variety of lesson types.
With the March 2020 Covid-19 lockdown starting two weeks after my first cello lesson, we moved to hold our lessons via Zoom, which worked exceptionally well. Not only does it save money and time in travel to a face to face lesson, it enabled the lessons to continue smoothly and we continued this style of lesson as it worked so well.
I cannot recommend Denise and her simple, timely and cost effective lessons enough.
